If a Sulapac Straw accidentally ends up in the ocean, it doesn’t harm the ecosystem. Naturally occurring microorganisms can digest it into CO2, water and biomass.

THE MARINE BIODGEGRADATION OF THE STRAW HAS BEEN TESTED IN TWO WAYS
By placing the straw material into natural sea water and monitoring the CO2 production. Based on this, the time for complete biodegradation has been estimated.
By placing the straw in the open water of the Baltic Sea and measuring the weight loss.
- Both tests suggest that the straw biodegrades with a similar speed as tree leaves in nature.
- The straw is microplastic-free, so it biodegrades fully and the material doesn’t accumulate in nature. Hence, it won’t collect harmful chemicals or pathogens that could enrich along the food chain.
- The straw has passed the ecotoxity tests specified in the European Standard EN 13432.
